We are pleased to announce two new exciting ways to lift skin at Dignity Medical Aesthetics. The first is with a device that uses a form of ultrasound technology called Ulthera to lift your brows, lift and tighten your skin on your neck, along the jawbone, under the chin in just one treatment. The results unfold over the next several months and for most patients, are quite impressive. It is the only device in the United States that is FDA approved to lift the neck and brows. FDA approved means that it had to meet the standards required to validate their claims. Other “non-approved areas” include the midface and upper face. There are even clinical studies now being conducted on the decolletage (upper chest) and other areas. After two years of searching for a “Neck Device”, including going overseas to see if anything exciting was on the horizon, we learned that the device we were looking for was already available in the United States.
ULTHERAPY
Ultherapy (Ulthera) was approved in 2010 in the US, but in its initial days on the market, it was quite uncomfortable and that limited the number of offices that offered the procedure. In October of 2012, a study was released that utilitized over 80 patients having a “Split face” treatment. The higher settings initially recommended were used on one side of the face, and lower, more tolerable settings were on the other side of the face. In the end, there was no change in outcome. This meant that now there was a treatment that can be done in the office with Ibuprofen and in many cases, a low dose of anti-anxiety medication that had no downtime. Once the procedure is complete, there is a little redness immediately after the treatment that may only last a few hours. Some people report a little yellowish bruising or slight swelling the next day, but not enough to prevent regular activities such as work.
This device delivers heat deep to the layer under the skin and fat called the SMAS (Superficial muscular aponeurotic system) which is an area of musculature of the face. This muscular system is what plastic surgeons manipulate during facial cosmetic surgery. It connects to the dermis via vertical septa. While Ulthera does not claim to match the tightening one would normally see from a surgical neck or brow lift, for some patients it is the answer they are looking for it they aren’t ready for surgery or wouldn’t consider surgery for themselves. Ultherapy uses the safe, time-tested energy of ultrasound to stimulate the deep structural support layers of the skin—including those typically addressed in a surgical facelift—without disturbing the surface of the skin. VOLUMA
The next exciting item to announce at Dignity Medical Aesthetics is the FDA approval of Voluma. This is the first filler FDA approved to add volume to the cheek area. By adding volume to the cheeks, the entire lower face will have a natural, lifted appearance as well with more contour while looking natural. Best of all, it typically lasts up to two years! Voluma is manufactured by Allergan, the company which provides Botox and Juvederm. Now there is a broad spectrum of products within the Allergan brand to correct signs of aging on the entire face.
