Like laser resurfacing, microneedling is used to stimulate collagen and therefore soften textural components of the skin including fine lines, pore size, and scarring. At Dignity Medical Aesthetics, we use a medical-grade for our microneedling procedures. This automated microneedling device causes focused and purposefully micro-trauma to the skin, which leads to the production of collagen and elastin. The benefits of microneedling include softening of the appearance of scars and stretch marks, in addition to reduction of textural issues such as fine lines and wrinkles. Microneedling can also improve the appearance of pores and gives a healthy, natural glow to the skin.

We typically recommend a series of 3 microneedling treatments, spaced about a month apart. Microneedling can also be used in conjunction with non-ablative fractional laser resurfacing, as they are both performed to create similar responses in the skin but use different methods. We cannot predict which modality your skin will respond better to, and therefore some patients opt to have a combination of microneedling and laser resurfacing to complete their series of 3 treatments.

Microneedling can be performed with or without Platelet Rich Plasma, or “PRP”. PRP is the component of our own blood that has growth factors which when activated, cause the production of collagen and elastin. Adding PRP to your microneedling treatment can lessen social downtime and improve the outcome of your procedure. You can read more about PRP under the Platelet Rich Plasma link.
